Although political conservatives and many religious leaders may succeed at making the lives of transgender folks more difficult and more painful, they can’t eradicate us from the human race. We have always been around and new transgender individuals are born everyday. We are not a moral abberation. We are a naturally occurring part of humanity. Just because our identity feels foreign to many folks doesn’t make us some kind of suspicious plague on society. Please don’t turn us into scapegoats for your own social discomfort. We are a human treasure not a piece of refuse to be discarded. We just want a fair chance in life. Because if you give us the opportunity, you would likely be pleasantly surprised. Just get to know us, we have a lot to offer. We are vulnerable flesh and blood, not some kind of upsetting political statement. For myself, I follow Jesus first and foremost. Do we want to remain closed to the wide diversity and variation that God has created here on Earth?
